Mounted on the southern wall of the Old Town Hall, the Orloj is one of the most intricate and visually striking clocks in the world, combining a medieval astronomical dial, a calendar dial, and sculpted figures that animate on the hour. The ornate facade rewards tight compositions with a telephoto lens to isolate the mechanical detail and gilded rings, but a wider shot from across the square captures the clock within its Gothic tower context. Early morning is your best window, before the crowds fill Old Town Square and when the soft diffused light reduces harsh shadows on the carved stone face. Shooting from slightly off-center gives you a more dynamic angle than a flat head-on frame. On the hour, position yourself to catch the procession of the Twelve Apostles moving through the upper windows. (Prague, Czechia)
