About Stoa of Attalos - Museum of the Ancient Agora

The Stoa of Attalos is a long two storey colonnade on the east side of the Ancient Agora in Athens, rebuilt in the 1950s on its ancient foundations. Attalos II of Pergamon gave the original to the city in the second century BC, and a raid destroyed it centuries later. American archaeologists rebuilt it in marble to house the Museum of the Ancient Agora. The colonnade features 45 columns in a row that give you an amazing receding line to shoot down from either end. Sculptures stand out in the open colonnade and on the terrace, in daylight rather than under museum lighting, so those pieces are perfect to add into any of your compositions. The upper floor looks west over the whole Agora complex towards the Temple of Hephaestus on its low hill, plus the columns create a ready made frame for the view. With a bit of patience you can pause to wait for someone to walk through, since adding a figure under the soaring columns gives the scale. The Agora is a ticketed archaeological site, and the museum included in thay entry fee. (Athens, Attica, Greece)
