Built in the 17th century by one of Switzerland's wealthiest merchants, this baroque palace in the heart of Brig is one of the most distinctive architectural subjects in the Alps, defined by its three towers topped with gilded onion domes that catch light beautifully on sunny days. Position yourself in the arcaded inner courtyard for symmetrical compositions framing the towers against the sky, or step back into the surrounding streets for wider shots that show the palace rising above the old town rooftops. Morning light hits the courtyard walls warmly and avoids the harsh midday shadows that can flatten the facade detail. A wide-angle lens works well inside the courtyard, while a short telephoto lets you isolate the ornate dome details from a distance. The palace is centrally located in Brig and easy to reach on foot from the train station. (Brig, Valais, Switzerland)
