Perched above 2,900 meters in the Swiss Alps, this viewpoint gives you a direct look down the length of the Aletsch Glacier, the longest glacier in the Alps, stretching over 23 kilometers into the valley below. The scale here is genuinely hard to process, and that is what makes it so compelling to photograph. Shoot wide to capture the full sweep of the glacier flanked by jagged peaks, or zoom in on the curved medial moraines, the dark stripes of rock running through the ice, which add strong natural lines and texture to your frame. Midday light can be harsh, but the high elevation means you get excellent clarity; early morning or late afternoon brings softer shadows that reveal the glacier's surface detail. The gondola from Fiesch makes access straightforward, and the viewing platform gives you an unobstructed, elevated perspective. A wide-angle lens works best, though a telephoto lets you compress the distant peaks beautifully. (Fiesch, Valais, Switzerland)
