Stórhöfði is a dramatic headland on the southern tip of Heimaey Island, offering sweeping views over the North Atlantic, jagged volcanic cliffs, and one of the largest puffin colonies in the world. The coastal track that loops around the peninsula gives you constantly changing compositions, from wide seascapes with distant islands to tight shots of puffins perching just meters away on the grassy clifftops. Golden hour light is exceptional here, especially in summer when the sun stays low for hours, painting the basalt rock in warm tones. Wind is a genuine factor, often extreme, so brace yourself and your gear accordingly. A wide-angle lens works well for the dramatic coastline and skies, while a short telephoto lets you isolate puffins without disturbing them. The site is accessible by a short drive from Heimaey town, with parking near the lighthouse. (Stórhöfði, Heimaey Island, Iceland)
