Gluggafoss, meaning "Window Falls," is one of Iceland's most distinctive waterfalls, where the water carves through a narrow rocky recess that you can actually walk behind, framing the cascade like a natural window. That cave-like alcove behind the lower section is your best compositional tool, letting you shoot outward with the falls and the valley beyond creating a layered, dramatic frame. Overcast days work especially well here since diffused light prevents blown highlights on the white water and brings out the deep greens of the surrounding moss. A wide-angle lens in the 16-24mm range helps capture the full height and the enclosing rock walls. You can get close to the base channels without much effort, and the path is straightforward from the small parking area off Route 261. Wet rock and mist near the recess are worth anticipating, so bring a lens cloth. (Hvolsvöllur, Iceland)
