Temple de Hirsch Sinai Remnants

What remains of the original 1907 Temple de Hirsch Sinai is a haunting fragment of classical architecture, four tall columns and a partial portico standing in isolation against the Seattle skyline. The contrast between the weathered stone facade and its urban surroundings makes for a striking and melancholy composition. Shoot straight on to emphasize the symmetry of the columns, or work from a low angle to give the remnants a sense of scale and grandeur they still command. The carved Ten Commandments detail above the doorframe rewards a tighter focal length if you want to isolate the ornamental stonework. Overcast days, common in Seattle, soften shadows and bring out the texture in the stone without harsh contrast. The site sits along 16th Avenue East and is accessible from the sidewalk; a 24-70mm or 35mm prime gives you flexibility to work both wide context shots and tighter details.
