The Temple of Poseidon, perched on the cliffs of Cape Sounion, is one of Greece’s most photogenic ancient ruins. Built in the 5th century BC, the temple’s marble columns stand high above the Aegean Sea, creating a striking contrast between classical architecture and rugged coastline. Photographers can capture wide shots of the temple framed by the sea, close-up details of the weathered columns, and panoramic views stretching across the Saronic Gulf. Sunset is especially spectacular, when golden light bathes the ruins and sea in warm tones. The site is easily accessible by road from Athens, making it a popular but rewarding location.
