Toyo Ito's TOD'S Omotesando Building is one of Tokyo's most striking pieces of architecture, its facade formed by an interlocking pattern of concrete tree-shaped supports that blend structural engineering with organic form. The building sits along Omotesando's famous zelkova-lined boulevard, and the best compositions come from positioning yourself across the street to capture the full facade, where the concrete lattice echoes the branching trees in front of it. Shoot in late afternoon when soft directional light rakes across the angular surface and brings out the depth of the concrete geometry. A standard or slightly wide lens works well for the full facade, while a longer focal length lets you isolate specific sections of the pattern. The tree canopy can frame your shot beautifully in spring or autumn when the foliage adds color and texture against the pale concrete. (Tokyo, Japan)
