About Tutons Drug Store
Tuton's Drug Store is a two storey sandstone building at the corner of Main and First in Arcadia, a short way off Route 66. It now sits abandoned slowly being reclaimed by the greenery growing around it. Local stone went into the walls when it was built around 1917. Fire tore through the Arcadia business district in June 1924 and took most of the block, but the Drugstore's stone building held up. That makes it the only commercial building still standing from the original downtown. The building has been sitting empty for quite a few years now with vines up the walls and grass grown high around the base. Arched openings run along the Main Street side, their frames still painted red. Shooting the corner from across the street lets you highlight both the red arches and the rich green vines slowly re-claiming the building. Soft light works better here than hard sun.
