Built in 1936, this elegant swing-span bridge combines a rotating steel center span with concrete arches on either side, creating a layered structure that rewards careful composition. You can shoot from the riverbanks below to use the arches as natural frames, or pull back for a wider view that includes the surrounding coastal forest and water reflections. The bridge photographs beautifully in soft overcast light, which is common on the Oregon coast and helps tame contrast between the dark metal and bright sky. Early morning is worth the effort when mist often rises off the Umpqua River and adds atmosphere to longer exposures. A mid-range zoom in the 24-70mm range handles most angles well, though a wider lens works if you get close to the base of the arches. Street-level parking near the riverbank gives you easy access to low shooting positions along the water. (Reedsport, Oregon, United States)
