Vandeleur was first settled (early 1850's) by farmers, many from Ireland looking to start new lives following the devastating effects of the Irish Potato Famine. Vandeleur had a population that varied from 150 to 200. There were a number of sawmills, a cheese factory and apiary (bee keeping). The Vandeleur Pioneer Cemetery is on on Grey Road 32 in the Grey Highlands region. All of the Grave markers have been moved to a central area and set in cement. (Grey Highlands, Ontario, Canada)
