Perched on the north bank of the Singel canal, this viewpoint gives you a clean look across the water at the Bloemenmarkt, Amsterdam's iconic floating flower market that has lined these barges since 1862. The combination of colorful flower stalls, traditional Dutch canal houses rising behind them, and the reflections in the still water below makes for a layered and visually rich composition. Shoot from the canal's edge and use a standard to short telephoto lens, around 35mm to 85mm, to compress the scene and bring the market stalls and architecture together. Morning light from the east skims across the facades nicely, and overcast days can be surprisingly useful for keeping the flower colors saturated without harsh shadows. Arrive early on weekdays to avoid crowds on the bridge and surrounding pathways, giving you a cleaner foreground along the waterfront. (Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands)
