View of Peace Tower
Standing on Wellington Street, you get one of the most direct and unobstructed views of the Peace Tower rising above Centre Block, the Gothic Revival centrepiece of Canada's Parliament Hill. The tower's intricate stonework, clock face, and copper roofline photograph well at almost any time of day, but the sweet spot is blue hour, when the building's warm exterior lighting contrasts beautifully against a deep blue sky. Shoot from the sidewalk across the street to keep the full tower in frame; a 24-70mm lens covers most compositions, though a longer focal length lets you isolate the tower's upper details against the sky. In winter, snow on the grounds and surrounding trees adds atmosphere. The area is accessible year-round and the street is wide enough to work from comfortably without obstruction.
