Washburn Point

Washburn Point is a roadside overlook on the way to Glacier Point that gives you a sweeping view across Yosemite Valley, with Half Dome front and center and Nevada Fall and Vernal Fall visible in the same frame. What sets it apart from Glacier Point is the angle: you get a more direct sightline toward the waterfalls, making it easier to isolate them against the granite walls without the crowds that gather a short distance up the road. A telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range lets you compress the layers of ridgelines and pull the falls closer, while a wide angle captures the full sweep of the valley. Late afternoon light hits the face of Half Dome beautifully, and golden hour warms the entire scene. The pullout has limited parking, so arrive early or later in the day to secure a spot.
