Glacier Point Road View
Glacier Point Road offers one of the most dramatic and accessible roadside compositions in Yosemite, where a sweeping curve in the road lines up almost perfectly with Half Dome rising in the distance. The road itself becomes your subject here, acting as a strong leading line that draws the eye directly toward the iconic granite dome. You will want to get low to the pavement to exaggerate the curve and emphasize depth, and a wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works best for pulling it all together. Early morning is ideal, when soft light rakes across the landscape and there is minimal traffic to deal with; golden hour in the evening also works well if Half Dome catches warm light. Arrive early to set up safely on the roadside, stay aware of passing vehicles, and check seasonal road openings since Glacier Point Road typically closes in winter.
