Waterloo Station

Waterloo Station - Photo by Shawn M. Kent1 / 1

Waterloo Station is one of London's busiest and most architecturally striking terminals, anchored by the Victory Arch, a grand ceremonial entrance built as a World War One memorial and covered in detailed stone carvings and ornate ironwork. Position yourself across the road on Mepham Street to capture the full scale of the arch with a wide or standard zoom lens, or move in close to isolate the sculptural details with a longer focal length. Inside the main concourse, shoot upward toward the curved iron and glass roof for compelling geometric compositions, and use the constant flow of commuters for motion blur or street candids during rush hour. The exterior reads best in overcast light, which reduces harsh shadows on the carved stonework, while early mornings give you the arch with minimal crowds. The station is fully accessible and centrally located. (London, England, United Kingdom)
