Window Arches
Standing inside or just behind the North and South Window Arches gives you one of the most dramatic natural frames in the American Southwest, with two massive eye-shaped openings carved into a towering sandstone fin. The classic composition is to position yourself behind the arches and use them as foreground frames, looking southwest toward Turret Arch and the surrounding desert landscape. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range works well to capture the full scale of the openings while keeping foreground rock detail sharp. Sunset is the prime time to visit, as warm light floods through the arches and the sandstone glows orange and red. The primitive trail looping behind the arches offers multiple angles that most visitors skip entirely. Parking at the Windows trailhead is straightforward, and the walk is short and mostly flat, making it accessible for most fitness levels. (Arches National Park, Utah, United States)
