About Wray Castle Jetty
The Wray Castle Jetty is a little gem tucked away in the Wray Castle grounds and quietly stretches out into Windermere from the wooded shoreline. It's now used as a stop for the lake cruises, so passenger boats often pull in and out during tourist season. From the end, the view in beautiful across England's largest lake to the far shore and the fells beyond. In autumn, the trees along the water turn gold and orange. Ideally aim to be here for an early mornings, when the water is at its calmest and if you are lucky a layer of mist may be floating above the surface. Since the jetty looks east across the lake, sunrise comes up in front of you while evening light highlights the far shore. In between cruise boats you can experiment with using the jetty as a leading line out into the water, or wait for a cruise boat to dock to give your composition a sense of scale. You can park in the Wray Castle car park, there is a parking fee for anyone who is not a National Trust member, or you can ride the seasonal Green Cruise over from Ambleside. The castle grounds are free to wander, so you can pair it with a walk along the shore paths. (Ambleside, Cumbria, United Kingdom)
