Wu Kai Sha Beach is a narrow sandy shore in the New Territories that offers a surprisingly dramatic contrast between nature and city. Facing west across Tolo Harbour, it gives you clean waterfront compositions with the dense highrise towers of Ma On Shan stacking up to one side and open green hills rolling across the opposite bank. Sunset is the prime time to shoot here, when the light drops directly behind the hills and buildings, casting warm reflections across the calm harbour water. Work the shoreline for low foreground interest using the wet sand and gentle ripples, or step back into the treeline to frame the scene with natural framing elements. A medium telephoto lens helps compress the towers against the hills for a striking cityscape shot. The beach is a short walk from Wu Kai Sha MTR station, making access straightforward.
