Yonge Street cuts through the heart of downtown Toronto, offering a dense corridor of neon signs, transit infrastructure, and urban energy that rewards patient street and cityscape photographers. Shooting from street level looking north or south gives you strong leading lines that compress the traffic, signage, and crowds into layered compositions; a longer focal length in the 70-135mm range works well for this kind of compression. The intersection around Dundas Square is particularly saturated with colour from the giant billboards and LED displays, making it one of the few spots in the city where you can shoot compelling images well after dark without needing ambient light. Rain-slicked pavement adds reflections that double the colour and drama. Blue hour is a sweet spot, when the sky still holds some tone and balances against the artificial lighting below. The street is always busy, so be aware of foot traffic and use a sturdy stance if shooting at slower shutter speeds. (Toronto, Ontario, Canada)
