Carbonear stands as one of the oldest settlements in North America. The harbor received its name from migratory fishermen before the arrival of John Guy and other settlers in Cupids in 1610, who established the first English settlement in Canada. Carbonear was mentioned by name in the letters and journals of these settlers. Crockers Cove Beach is located in the town of Carbonear, NL, at the intersection of Water Street, Freshwater Road, and Burnt Head Road. Scattered along numerous small beaches and harbors are abandoned boats and various marine debris. While these vessels may pose environmental and navigational hazards, they also provide photographers with unique subjects to photograph. (Carbonear, Newfoundland, Canada)
