At the outbreak of World War II, Cramond Island was fortified and armed with two 12-pdr guns, and a modern 6-pdr twin equipment, designed specifically to tackle fast-moving torpedo boats. Some of these buildings still remain on the island today, sitting empty and abandoned. The island is only accessible during low tide when a causeway appears and you can walk right to the island, be very aware of the tidal times because it is easy to become trapped on the island as the tide comes back in. (Cramond Island, Scotland)
