Ager’s Falls on Moose River
Ager's Falls is a dramatic waterfall on the Moose River in the Adirondack foothills, where the river rushes over and around distinctive rust-red sedimentary rock shelves that give the scene a striking, almost otherworldly color palette. The flat, walkable rock surfaces let you get close to the water and position yourself at multiple levels, so experiment with low angles to emphasize the layered geology in the foreground while the falls fill the background. A wide-angle lens works well for capturing the full sweep of the river and rock formations together. Golden hour and sunset light is especially rewarding here, as the warm tones deepen the red in the rocks and add glow to the moving water; a polarizing filter helps cut glare and bring out the colors. Use a slow shutter speed to smooth the flowing water against the textured stone. The site is easy to access with open space to move freely along the riverbank.
