Alnes is a small fishing village on the island of Godøy in northwestern Norway, built around a rugged shoreline of barnacled rocks, weathered wooden boats, and a striking red and white lighthouse that has guided vessels through these waters since 1853. The rocky foreshore gives you strong compositional anchors, especially when you use the textured slabs and tidal pools as foreground interest leading toward the lighthouse or out to the open sea. Low angles work particularly well here, getting close to the wet rocks to capture reflections during golden hour or after waves wash across the shelf. Stormy and overcast conditions often produce the most dramatic results, with moody skies and white water crashing against the shore. A wide angle lens in the 16 to 24mm range suits the scene well. Access is straightforward via a short walk from the small parking area near the lighthouse. (Alnes, Møre og Romsdal, Norway)
