About Alte Harburger Elbbrücke (Old Harburg Elbe Bridge)

Alte Harburger Elbbrücke (Old Harburg Elbe Bridge) is an intricate steel arch bridge over the Süderelbe in southern Hamburg. It links the districts of Harburg and Wilhelmsburg, running roughly south to north across the water. When it was originally built in the 1890s, it was the first road crossing of the Süderelbe. Trams continued to use until the 1970s. Now the bridge is used as a pedestrian crossing. A sandstone portal stands tall overlooking each end with Harburg's coat of arms is on the southern one and Wilhelmsburg's on the north. Most photographers come to capture those portals. You can easily line up along the deck so the steel lattice repeats away from you in a herringbone pattern. Blue hour suits the ironwork perfectly, especially once all of the lights come on. This is a busy pedestrian crossing so keep an eye on your surroundings and be aware that cyclists move quickly here. (Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany)
