Jericho Beach Pier is a modest wooden dock extending into English Bay, offering one of Vancouver's most rewarding waterfront compositions, with the snow-capped North Shore mountains rising behind the calm inlet and the downtown skyline visible to the east. Walk to the end of the pier and shoot back toward the city for a classic layered scene, or turn west to frame the open water with the mountains filling the background. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full sweep of the landscape, while a short telephoto lets you compress the mountains against the skyline. Golden hour and blue hour are both excellent here; sunrise brings soft light on the mountains with minimal crowds, and overcast days smooth out reflections on the water beautifully. The pier is flat and easy to access from the beach parking area, and low tide can reveal interesting foreground textures along the shore nearby. (Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada)
