Bergen's historic harbor sits at the foot of the famous Bryggen wharf, where rows of colorful wooden Hanseatic merchant houses line the waterfront and reflect in the calm harbor water below. The classic composition frames the painted facades of red, orange, and yellow buildings together with the fishing boats and small vessels moored along the dock. Shooting from the opposite quay gives you the full row of Bryggen straight on, while moving to either end lets you compress the buildings with a longer lens for a tighter, more graphic shot. Early morning is the best time to visit, when the light is soft, crowds are thin, and the water is calm enough for clean reflections. A focal length between 35mm and 85mm works well here. The harbor is easy to walk around and most angles are accessible from public waterfront paths. (Bergen, Vestland, Norway)
