Johanneskirken rises above central Bergen as the city's largest church, a dramatic Gothic Revival structure with a soaring spire, red-brick facade, and intricate stonework that rewards close attention as much as wide-angle shots. Shooting from directly below the spire with a wide or ultra-wide lens lets you exaggerate the vertical lines and sense of scale, while stepping back to the surrounding streets gives you classic full-facade compositions with trams or pedestrians adding life and scale. The red brick responds beautifully to soft overcast light, which is common in Bergen and actually flattering here, reducing harsh shadows on the ornate detailing. Golden hour adds warmth to the facade and makes the stone accents pop. The church sits on a slight rise, so approaching from the lower streets naturally frames the spire against the sky. A 16-35mm range works well for architecture shots, and the area is easy to walk to from Bergen's city center. (Bergen, Vestland, Norway)
