Bibliotek
This striking modernist library in Tromsø hides one of Norway's most unusual interiors beneath a deceptively modest exterior. The main draw is the sweeping hyperbolic paraboloid roof structure inside, a dramatic concrete shell originally built for the old Fokus Cinema and inspired by the work of Mexican engineer Félix Candela. Once inside, look up and shoot the curved ceiling with a wide angle lens, ideally 16-24mm, to capture the full geometry of the shell as it fans overhead. The interplay of artificial light against the concrete curves rewards available-light shooting, so bring a fast prime or bump your ISO comfortably. Visit during opening hours on an overcast day when soft diffused light filters through the windows without harsh shadows. The building is centrally located and freely accessible during library hours, making it a straightforward stop to add to any Tromsø itinerary. (Tromsø, Troms, Norway)
