Tromsø Cityscape
Perched on the eastern shore of the Tromsøysundet strait, this viewpoint gives you one of the most iconic cityscapes in the Arctic, with the Tromsø Bridge sweeping across the water and the sharp white peaks of the Arctic Cathedral framing the scene on the far shore. Position yourself along the waterfront to use the bridge as a natural leading line drawing the eye toward the cathedral and the city beyond. A wide angle lens works well to capture the full sweep of the scene, though a short telephoto can compress the bridge and cathedral into a more dramatic pairing. Winter visits offer the possibility of northern lights arching over the skyline, while the blue hour periods around midday in deep winter give the water a rich moody tone. The path along the shore is flat and accessible year round, though ice can make footing slippery in colder months. (Tromsø, Troms, Norway)
