Bodega Bay is a backcountry campsite on the shores of Flat Mountain Arm, a quiet southeastern finger of Yellowstone Lake, where the water sits so still in the early morning that it mirrors the surrounding forested ridgelines perfectly. Sunrise is the standout opportunity here, with soft pink and orange light reflecting across the glassy surface before any wind picks up. Position yourself at the water's edge and shoot low to emphasize the reflections, or step back into the tree line to frame the lake through the pines. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full sweep of the bay and sky, while a short telephoto lets you compress the distant ridgelines. Access requires a backcountry permit and a multi-mile hike or paddle, so plan your timing carefully and arrive the evening before to scout your exact position before dawn.
