This stunning Art Deco landmark on Wilshire Boulevard rewards photographers who take time to explore all its angles. The tower, with its verdigris copper cladding and geometric ornamentation, makes a strong vertical subject, and shooting from across the street gives you the full facade with the tower rising dramatically above the entrance porte-cochere. Move around to the sides to find intricate relief details and decorative friezes that work beautifully with a mid-range or macro lens. The building now houses the Southwestern Law School library, so interior access is limited, but the exterior offers plenty. Overcast days are ideal for bringing out the texture of the copper and terracotta without harsh shadows, though late afternoon sun can add warm contrast to the geometric detailing. A wide-angle lens handles the full facade well, while a 70-200mm lets you isolate the ornamental upper floors and tower cap from across Wilshire. Street parking is available nearby.
