Wilshire Boulevard Temple is one of Los Angeles's most architecturally striking religious buildings, a Byzantine Revival landmark completed in 1929 with a massive copper-clad dome and an interior filled with elaborate murals, gilded details, and soaring arches. Inside is where the real photographic reward is, with the painted biblical murals wrapping the walls, ornate geometric tilework, and warm ambient light filtering through the space. A wide-angle or 16-35mm lens works well to capture the full sweep of the sanctuary interior, while a longer focal length lets you isolate mural details and decorative elements. Midday interior visits benefit from consistent artificial lighting, so bring a fast lens or be comfortable shooting at higher ISO. For exteriors, the dome and facade read best in soft morning or late afternoon light. Check ahead for public tours, as access to the interior requires advance planning.
