About Burg Hohenrechberg

Burg Hohenrechberg is a hilltop ruin above the village of Rechberg in southern Germany. It was built in the early 1200s on a rock spur below the mountain's summit, and it burned out in 1865 after a lightning strike. What's left is fun to explore. There is rugged outer walls, a gate and a courtyard, all with enough intricate stonework to walk around inside and shoot from. The spur points west, so from the walls you're looking out over the Rems and Fils valleys. Evening is the perfect time to be here because the sun drops over the valley and creates amazing colours over the whole scene. After you are done capturing castle make sure to carry on up hillside to the pilgrimage church on the summit above. From there you're looking down on the whole thing with the valley behind it. Cars need to park in the village, so it's roughly ten minutes uphill on foot. A small fee gets you into the grounds, and the Burgschänke inside does food if you want a break between shots. Hours shift depending on the season, so check before a long drive. (Schwäbisch Gmünd, Baden-Württemberg, Germany)
