Carnegie Community Centre Interior
Built in 1903, this ornate Romanesque Revival building served as Vancouver's first public library and now operates as a community centre, making it one of the most architecturally significant interiors in the city. Inside, you will find a grand reading room with high ceilings, arched windows, warm wood detailing, and a central rotunda that draws the eye upward. Shoot from low angles to emphasize the arched doorways and ceiling height, or position yourself under the rotunda to capture the symmetry looking straight up. Natural light filtering through the tall windows creates soft, even illumination during midday hours, which works well for interior shots without harsh shadows. A wide angle lens in the 16-24mm range helps capture the full scale of the space. The building is open to the public and free to enter, though be respectful as it serves an active community.
