Cathedral of St John the Baptist
This Gothic Revival cathedral rises dramatically above Norwich's rooftops, its soaring spire and elaborate flying buttresses offering strong architectural compositions from multiple angles. Approach from Unthank Road to capture the full west facade, or work your way around the exterior to find tighter shots of the stonework and buttresses using a 24-70mm or wider lens. Inside, shoot toward the east end to capture the long nave, vaulted ceiling, and stained glass windows together; a tripod is essential here as the interior is dim and you will need slower shutter speeds to retain detail and color in the glass. Overcast days work well outside by reducing harsh shadows on the carved stonework, while midday sun can create dramatic contrast on the buttresses. The cathedral is free to enter and generally quiet on weekday mornings, giving you space to compose without crowds. (Norwich, England, United Kingdom)
