Central Park Cityscape
The rocky outcroppings in the southern end of Central Park give you an elevated, natural foreground against one of the most iconic skylines in the world. You can scramble up the exposed schist boulders to gain height and frame the midtown towers rising dramatically above the tree canopy, with the contrast between the wild, weathered rock and the glass skyscrapers doing a lot of the compositional work for you. A telephoto lens in the 70-200mm range compresses the skyline beautifully and pulls the buildings closer to the treeline. Golden hour light in the late afternoon catches the west-facing facades and warms up the whole scene. The area around The Heckscher Ballfields and Umpire Rock is easy to reach from the 59th Street entrance, and the rocks themselves offer multiple levels and angles to explore without much walking.
