Columbus Circle
Columbus Circle sits at the southwest corner of Central Park, where Midtown's skyline, the Time Warner Center's glass towers, and the Columbus Monument converge into a dense urban composition. The monument column itself makes a strong vertical anchor; try shooting from the park side to frame it against the surrounding skyscrapers, or get low and point upward to emphasize its height against the sky. The circular flow of traffic creates natural leading lines, and at blue hour or after dark the streaking headlights and taillights add real energy to long exposures. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full scene, while a short telephoto lets you compress the glass facades of the Time Warner Center into tighter architectural shots. Midday light can be harsh, so aim for early morning when the crowds are thin and the light is softer. Street-level access is easy from multiple subway exits right at the circle.
