Chapel Pond
Chapel Pond is a stunning mountain tarn tucked into the Adirondack High Peaks region, with sheer granite cliff faces rising dramatically from the far shoreline and calm water that mirrors the surrounding forest and rock walls on still days. The reflection shots are the main draw here, so position yourself along the near shoreline and shoot across the pond toward the cliffs, using rocks or overhanging branches in the foreground to add depth. A wide angle lens works well for capturing the full sweep of the cliffs and their reflection together. Early morning is ideal when wind is minimal and the light is soft, though fall foliage transforms the scene entirely with bursts of orange and red against the grey rock. The pond sits right off Route 73 with a small pullout, making access straightforward; a short walk brings you to the water's edge. (Keene, New York, United States)
