Deildartunguhver
Deildartunguhver is Europe's highest-flow hot spring, sending over 180 liters of near-boiling water surging up every second in a dramatic, constantly churning display of steam and bubbling water. The dense clouds of steam are the main visual element here, and they behave differently depending on conditions; cold or overcast days produce the most dramatic billowing plumes, while calm mornings with little wind let the steam rise in thick columns that catch the light beautifully. Position yourself low and close to the water's edge to exaggerate the scale of the flow, and look for the vivid blue-green color of the water beneath the surface. A wide-angle lens works well for capturing the surrounding moss-covered landscape, while a telephoto lets you isolate the churning water and steam detail. The site has a boardwalk and is easy to access year-round, with parking just steps away. (Borgarbyggð, Western Region, Iceland)
