Glymur is Iceland's second tallest waterfall, plunging 198 meters into a narrow, moss-lined canyon at the end of a rewarding trail in the Hvalfjordur area. The hike in takes roughly two to three hours round trip and involves a log crossing over the Botnsá river, a short cave passage, and a steep climb to the canyon rim where the full drop comes into view. Shooting from the top gives you a dramatic overhead perspective looking down into the gorge, while positions partway up the trail offer classic wide compositions with the cascade framed by basalt cliffs and green walls. A wide angle lens works well for the full scene, but a telephoto helps compress the upper falls. Overcast days keep the light soft and even, reducing harsh shadows in the deep canyon; midday sun in summer can be tricky given Iceland's high latitude light angles. Wear waterproof boots as the trail is wet throughout. (Hvalfjordur, West Iceland, Iceland)
