Síðumúlakirkja
This small turf-roofed chapel sits alone in the Icelandic countryside, its brilliant white walls and vivid red roof creating a striking contrast against the surrounding lava fields, mountains, and open sky. The classic composition is a straight-on front shot that emphasizes the clean symmetry of the facade, but moving to a three-quarter angle brings in more of the surrounding landscape and adds depth. A wide angle lens works well here, letting you include the low wooden fence and the dramatic sky overhead. Overcast days soften the light and prevent harsh shadows on the white walls, while golden hour adds warm tones that complement the red roof beautifully. The church sits right along Route 523 and is easy to pull off and access; walking the perimeter gives you several distinct framings with the rolling hills and sky as your backdrop.
