Eggin í Gleðivík
This striking public art installation lines the waterfront of a small East Iceland fishing village, with 34 oversized granite eggs arranged along the harbor's edge, each one a scaled-up replica of a local nesting bird's egg. The eggs vary in shape, texture, and color, making close-up detail shots just as rewarding as wider compositions that place the sculptures against the calm bay and surrounding mountains. A wide-angle lens works well for capturing several eggs together with the water and landscape behind them, while a macro or short telephoto lets you isolate the surface texture and subtle color differences of individual eggs. Overcast days are ideal here, as Iceland's soft diffused light brings out the stone tones without harsh shadows. The installation runs along an easy, flat waterfront path, so you can walk the full length and experiment with low angles placing the eggs against the sky or water.
