Folaldafoss
Folaldafoss is a dramatic waterfall in Iceland's East Fjords region, where a river is forced through a narrow cliff gap and redirected almost 90 degrees before plunging 54 feet into a tight, bowl-shaped pool. The confined geometry makes this a rewarding subject, and you have a few strong compositions to work with: shooting straight into the falls from the pool's edge emphasizes the sheer drop and surrounding basalt walls, while a slightly elevated angle from the side captures the sharp bend in the river above. A wide-angle lens works well to show the full context of the cliff band and pool together. Overcast days are ideal here since the enclosed bowl creates harsh shadows in direct sun, and soft light brings out the textures in the dark rock.
