Múlafoss
Múlafoss is one of the uppermost waterfalls in the dramatic series of cascades that tumble down the Fjarðará river toward Seyðisfjörður, and its remote position rewards photographers willing to make the hike. The falls drop over a wide basalt ledge into a rocky gorge, giving you strong foreground interest with the river's mossy banks and boulders. Shoot from a low angle to emphasize the cascade and use the winding river as a leading line back toward the falls. A wide angle lens works well here, letting you include the surrounding lava-strewn landscape and moody hills. Overcast days are ideal, as Iceland's flat diffused light eliminates harsh shadows and brings out the deep greens of the moss. Wear waterproof boots as the terrain near the riverbank is wet and uneven, and plan extra time to stop and photograph the smaller rapids and cascades along the trail on your way up.
