Sveinstekksfoss drops into a tight basalt gorge where layered volcanic rock formations create a dramatic, textured backdrop that sets it apart from Iceland's more visited waterfalls. Because the twisting canyon walls block any view from below, you need to work from the rim of the gorge, shooting downward into the falls as they plunge into the narrow slot. A wider lens in the 16-24mm range helps capture both the falls and the striking geological layering in the surrounding cliffs. Overcast days are your best friend here, as they eliminate harsh shadows inside the gorge and bring out the rich dark tones of the basalt. The trail to the rim is relatively short but can be uneven and wet, so proper footwear is essential. Position yourself carefully along the edge to find clear sightlines through the canyon and include the winding stream below as a natural leading element. (Berufjörður, Iceland)
