Falls Brook Falls
Falls Brook Falls, also known as Sheepherder’s Brook Falls, is a secluded waterfall in Upper Stewiacke, reached by an easy 1.7 km hike through forest from a small turnout along NS 289. The trail leads to a wide rock face where the water spreads out and flows down in several channels into a calm pool below. It is a quiet spot that does not see a lot of visitors, so you usually have time to explore and shoot without distractions. The shape of the falls makes it easy to work with simple compositions, using rocks in the foreground or framing the flow as it fans out across the stone. Overcast conditions help keep the light even, and a slower shutter speed works well to smooth out the water. The forest around the falls adds a natural frame and keeps the setting feeling enclosed and calm. (Upper Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, Canada)
