About Gasteiner Wasserfall
Gasteiner Wasserfall is a unique waterfall that drops in three stages straight through the middle of town. The water is the Gasteiner Ache, coming down out of the Hohe Tauern National Park. A the top of the falls a group of buildings are stacked up both sides of the gorge, so the water starts it path down right in between buildings. The stone bridge across the middle stage is the main viewpoint. It was built in 1840 and widened later, and you can drive right to it (it's pretty much in the center of town). Shooting from there with a slow shutter lets you highlight the unusual path of the water as it comes right into the heart of town. The old power station below sits at the bottom drop, and from there the water looks like it falls between two houses. Higher up, a third bridge covers the top stage. Blue hour is the ideal time to be here once the all the building's lights come on behind the spray. Snowmelt in spring raises the water level so it thunders through town for a couple of weeks. Winter brings ice on the rock and around the edges. A path called the Wasserfallweg follows the water down to Bad Bruck, about 3 km, giving you even more shooting options. That path closes for the winter but the middle bridge stays reachable whatever the season or weather. (Bad Gastein, Salzburg, Austria)
