Honokohau Lookout
Perched along Honoapiilani Highway on Maui's north coast, this roadside lookout gives you a sweeping view over lush green hillsides tumbling down toward the rocky shoreline and the deep blue of the Pacific. The contrast between the vivid tropical vegetation and the churning surf below is what makes this spot worth stopping for. Try a wide angle lens to capture the full sweep of coastline and layered hills, or zoom in on the waves breaking against the rocks for something more dramatic. The lookout is best in the morning when the light comes in from the east and saturates the greens, though overcast days can work surprisingly well by softening harsh shadows across the terrain.
